As you run from your job to pick up the kids to your home where dinner is waiting—waiting to be cooked by you, that is—do you ever wonder how stress-free life could be if you were rich and famous like, say, a movie star?

According to Bob Roth, best-selling author of Strength in Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation, the wealthy and famous aren’t immune to anxiety, depression or insomnia either. He should know, since he’s taught TM to favourite celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Ellen Degeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Jackman and Tom Hanks (to name a few). In fact, the media refer to him as the “Meditation Teacher to the Stars.”

“We’re living in an epidemic of stress,” he said last month on CTV News Vancouver. “That’s the common denominator. We all would like some inner calm, inner clarity.”

Roth was in Vancouver hosting a sold-out Consciousness & Creativity event at the SFU Goldthorpe Centre featuring a live Q&A session with the famed movie director David Lynch. The event was part of Roth’s Canadian tour to publicize his book and the David Lynch Foundation (DLF), which he directs. The DLF has paid for over one million underserved children, veterans, and victims of domestic violence to learn the TM technique. Proceeds from Roth’s book go to the foundation as well.

According to Roth, the solution to stress is the same whether you’re a celebrity or homeless vet. “There’s a level of your mind that is already calm, settled, peaceful and wide awake. Transcendental Meditation is an effortless tool for the mind to access that peace within—and for the body to attain a state of rest deeper than sleep. A few minutes doing Transcendental Meditation can end this terrible epidemic of stress-related illness.”

The tour included Toronto and Montreal and Roth appeared on Vancouver’s Breakfast Television and Toronto’s CTV’s ETalk, Canada’s #1 Entertainment Show.
